When a medicinal liquid is introduced into the intestine through an enema:

The intestinal peristaltic movements are stimulated.

Waste materials from the upper organs (such as the stomach, liver, and even the brain) move downward through the body.

As a result, corrupted humors—melancholic, bilious, or phlegmatic substances accumulated in the body—are expelled through the stool.

This process is a form of natural detoxification which, according to traditional medical texts, can be effective in treating chronic diseases, particularly those affecting the digestive system, liver, nerves, and kidneys.

The connection between the colon and kidneys in modern medicine

Recent studies in the field of nephrology (kidney disease research) have shown that the colon and kidneys have a close functional relationship; this concept is known as the “Kidney–Gut Axis.”

In chronic kidney diseases, the excretion of toxic substances (uremic toxins) decreases.

The colonic microbial flora (gut bacteria) itself is an important source of producing these toxins.

As a result, kidney dysfunction can alter the gut microbial composition, and vice versa.

For this reason, complementary treatments such as probiotics, uremic toxin adsorbents, and even therapeutic enemas have attracted the attention of researchers to help reduce the body’s toxic load.

Reduction of inflammation and endotoxemia

One of the problems of kidney patients and many chronic diseases is long-term systemic inflammation.
Research shows that some inflammatory substances (such as endotoxins) pass from the gut into the bloodstream.
By cleansing the colon (either with herbal enemas in traditional medicine or with colon hydrotherapy in modern medicine):

The level of endotoxins in the blood decreases.

General body inflammation subsides.

Symptoms such as loss of appetite, muscle weakness, insulin resistance, and anemia improve.

Simply put, colon cleansing can help improve the health of the heart, muscles, blood, and even appetite.

Mechanism of coffee enema

A special type of enema, which is now also common in Western alternative medicine, is the coffee enema (Coffee Enema).
According to research, the caffeine in coffee is absorbed through the colon wall and can:

Dilate the bile ducts of the liver,

Increase bile secretion,

And aid in the body’s natural detoxification process.

This is the same effect that, in traditional medicine, was expected from specific remedies such as warm and laxative decoctions.

Systemic effects of enema medications

Recent studies have confirmed that drugs dissolved in enemas do not only have a local effect; they can also be absorbed through the capillaries in the intestinal wall and enter the bloodstream.
This is why in traditional medicine, a specific type of enema medicine (laxative, cathartic, astringent, or dissolving) was prescribed for each disease, so that in addition to local cleansing, there would also be a systemic effect.

Conclusion

From the perspective of traditional medicine, enema is a natural method for balancing temperament, eliminating waste, and cleansing the body.

Modern research has also shown that the large intestine and kidneys have a direct connection in toxin metabolism and inflammation regulation.

Therefore, by performing scientific and safe enemas (under the supervision of a traditional medicine physician or a specialized clinic), it is possible to improve the function of the kidneys, liver, and immune system.

<h3 data-start="3926"
